A bit more history….

A quirky fact but in 2010 a section of the 14th Jersey Veterans tournament was staged at Old Boltonians AFC.

The Icelandic Volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, had erupted and it’s subsequent ash cloud closed European air space the day teams were due to fly to Jersey. The tournament still went ahead in Jersey but featured only teams from the Channel Islands, including a Guernsey side who arrived by hastily arranged private yacht.

A few weeks later we organised a Jersey Veterans tournament for UK mainland teams unable to reach the Channel Islands, at Old Boltonians AFC.

In Our Opinion

An enjoyable weekend in the Portuguese sunshine before winter sets in. The tournament is played on good quality pitches by the Alfamar hotel and beach, and is followed by the trophy presentation and a very sociable happy hour, or three with the other teams. The Alfamar is beautifully set in a quiet location by the beach, but you’re also within easy reach of the nightlife of Albufeira and Vilamoura. Your weekend can be as relaxing or as hectic as you want it to be.
