Location

The Algarve Veterans Football Tournament is played close to Albufeira and Vilamoura and approximately 30 minutes from Faro airport. The event is held on professional standard pitches in the grounds of the Alfamar Beach and Sport Resort, located directly on the excellent 8 mile sandy mile beach of Praia de Falesia.

Albufeira is the busiest resort on the Algarve and has a very lively nightlife scene centred on the Old Town and ‘the strip’. Albufeira is approximately 15 minutes from the Alfamar.

Vilamoura is the sporting capital of Portugal and is well known for it’s international standard golf courses. The resort’s busy marina is surrounded by a huge range of restaurants, bars, luxury hotels, designer shops and casino. You can reach the resort in 15 minutes with transport, or via a 45 minute walk on the glorious sandy beach of Falesia.

The Algarve’s seemingly endless coastline includes some of Europe’s best beaches and watersports facilities, and is home to some  of the world’s finest golf courses. When the sun goes down you’ll find the busy resorts of Albufeira and Vilamoura are just a few minutes away.

The Alfamar Beach & Sport Resort is in an excellent location, directly on the beach and surrounded by pine trees. The sport and leisure facilities include professional standard football pitches, outdoor and indoor pools, 15 tennis courts and 5 golf courses within 12 miles.

Other sports and leisure facilities include track and field athletics, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, fitness room, jacuzzi, sauna, massage and snooker.

The hotel has several bars and restaurant, including poolside and ‘Atlantico’ beach bar. A souvenir shop, hairdresser and supermarket complete the resort’s facilities.

The 264 spacious rooms are twin bedded with bathroom, satellite T.V, radio, safe, air conditioning and balcony.

Villa accommodation is also available in the grounds of the hotel. 1 bedroom villas sleeping 2 persons, and 2 bedroom villas sleeping 4 persons are available. Facilities include private bathrooms, kitchen, lounge area, balcony and terrace. Meal package is half board.

Optional supplements – Extra nights are available at £35 per person.  Sea view rooms are available at £7 per person per night. Single room supplement is £20 per person per night.

Football

The 10th ISL Algarve Veterans Football Festival is an 11 a side competition and will be played on professional standard grass pitches within the grounds of the hotel. In between matches there’s time to cool off in the hotel pool. Games will be 1 x 30 minutes and teams will play minimum 4 games, maximum 6 games.

The 2nd ISL Algarve Super Veterans Football Tournament is a 7 a side competition played on smaller pitches with smaller goals at the same location.

A maximum of 12 teams can participate in each event.

Post Tournament

Following the tournament is the presentation of the trophies and Happy Hours in Capri Bar, a typical Portuguese bar near to the hotel. Free beer and tapas included. You’re welcome to stay until the beer runs out, or the end of the evening (often the same thing!)

We can arrange transport to and tee off times a special prices to many of the Algarve’s golf courses. Please ask for details. Sample prices.

In Our Opinion

An enjoyable weekend in the Portuguese sunshine before winter sets in. The tournament is played on good quality pitches by the Alfamar hotel and beach, and is followed by the trophy presentation and a very sociable happy hour, or three with the other teams. The Alfamar is beautifully set in a quiet location by the beach, but you’re also within easy reach of the nightlife of Albufeira and Vilamoura. Your weekend can be as relaxing or as hectic as you want it to be.
