A 5 star International tournament that celebrated it's 20th anniversary in 2011, The Donosti Cup attracts over 300 teams from around the world. Real Sociedad's Anoeta Stadium and state of the art training complex at Zubieta combine to form the hub of this great event.

Tournament Location

San Sebastian is a beautiful seaside city located on Spain's northern coast. The city is situated between the mountains of the Basque country and fantastic sandy beaches. San Sebastian is one of Spain's most attractive cities and is well known for it's fine shopping, nightlife and gastronomy. You'll find the Basque people are friendly and welcoming.

Outline Itinerary

Sunday 1st July Arrive San Sebastian. Teams arrive at Anoeta Stadium for registration. Check into accommodation. Rest of day at leisure.

Monday 2nd July Tournament commences with group games. In the evening is the Opening Ceremony in Anoeta Stadium; parade of teams, music, dance, and a firework finale.

Tuesday 3rd July Group games continue.

Wednesday 4th July Completion of group stage.

Thursday 5th July Knock out phase of tournament. Managers match. Donosti Cup disco. Ice Skating Party.

Friday 6th July Knock out phase continues. Farewell dinner. Managers party. Donosti 2012 party.

Saturday 7th July Finals followed by trophy presentation. Closing Ceremony. Departure of teams.

Sunday 8th July Optional extra day (prices on request)

Accommodation

Schools accommodation is provided. Each team is allocated a classroom, you will need to bring sleeping bag with you, alternatively you can hire beds in advance at a small supplement.

Full board; breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. Breakfast is taken at your accommodation, lunch and dinner in the tournament dining room, next to the Anoeta Stadium.

Youth Hostel, University Hall of Residence, Hotels of all grades are also available, please enquire for prices.

Football

Games are played on grass and 3G pitches. Group games are played at several venues in and around San Sebastian, including Real Sociedad's excellent training facility at Zubieta. The 28,000 capacity Anoeta Stadium is the venue for many of the finals.

Boys (11 a side): 1993-95, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999

Boys (8 a side): 2000/2001, 2002/03

Girls (11 side): 1994/95, 1996/97, 1998/99

Girls (8 a side): 2000/2001

2 x 25 minutes

Format

The Donosti Cup is played in two phases. In the 1st phase, teams are put into groups of 4 and 5. The top 2 in each group proceed to the main competition, the 3rd and 4th go through to the consolation competition. In the 2nd phase, games are played on a knock out basis through to the finals.

Dispensation

Age dispensation may be applied for. Special dispensation rules apply to teams from England.

Transport in San Sebastian

A contingency fund may be necessary in the likely event your matches are played away from your accommodation; public transport and coach hire is available.

Getting There

Direct flights are available from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast to Biarritz, Bilbao, Bordeaux and Santander, with Easyjet, Ryanair, Bmibaby and Flybe.

Executive coach tours, exclusive or shared use depending on group size, to Donosti Cup are available from your local area. Departure is on Saturday 30th June with arrival back in the UK on Sunday 8th July. Prices from £349 per person.

Our Opinion

A fantastic tournament played in a stunning location, the Donosti Cup will provide your team with a truly unforgettable experience. The Donosti Cup attracts clubs from around the globe and with the majority of the teams from the Spanish speaking world, the competition has a very latin feel. Spain is well represented, as are France and Portugal. Participants from the Basque province add local colour and flavour to the event.
